Earliest meeting: Thursday 11th December 1845
Final meeting: Thursday 19th March 1868
The small Norfolk village of Haddiscoe is located 19 miles south-east of Norwich and is steeped in history. It was the site of the only Knights Templar Preceptory, and also had its own railway station which was part of the Norwich to Lowestoft line. Despite today having a population of less than 500, back in the middle of the 19th century it held its own race meetings. The first meeting took place on 11th December 1845 on a course laid out in fields owned by Mr A Palmer and Mr H Gummer. The final time a record exists of racing in the village was on Thursday 19th March 1868 when the meeting was overseen by the Norfolk and Suffolk Hunt Committees. The feature race, the Haddiscoe Handicap, was won in impressive style by Mr G Larkman’s King Tom.
